We're making a movie!

I’ve been directing ads nonstop since 2010, and around June of 2025 I got this overwhelming feeling that I had a feature film in me. Part of it traces back to an interview I did when Teamwork.com's The Client – Part Deux came out. Afterward, the writer asked me a simple question:

“Do you make feature films?”

I said no.

She said, “You should.”

That comment stuck. A year later, it turned into a decision.

I tried writing the film myself at first, but eventually I brought in Katie Fetting, who wrote my short film The Counselor. Over lunch, she pitched six ideas. One immediately clicked: a housecleaner who thinks she witnesses a murder - and can only investigate it one week at a time while cleaning the house.

That was the movie.

We collaborated in Google Drive, traded beats, and by November 2025, we had a first draft. We’re now on draft ten. Today is our table read. The movie is cast, and we shoot February 25 through March 18, 2026.

This is real.

For perspective: my biggest commercial shoots are four or five days. After that, I’m completely wiped out. This film is sixteen shoot days. Sixty-six scenes. Endless setups. Wardrobe. Props. Locations.

It’s easily the biggest thing I’ve ever attempted.

And yet - I feel ready for it.

Because of this, I’ve been mostly heads-down. We’ve paused taking on new projects at Umault until April, when we wrap production and head into post. If you want to follow along, I’ve been documenting the process on YouTube in a series called Guy Makes a Movie.

Before I go, one small insight - B2B video marketing related or not.

When projects feel overwhelming, it’s usually because you’re looking at the whole thing at once. Right now, I’m staring at a board with 115 note cards representing film setups. That’s terrifying - until you break it down.

We turned the movie into micro-tasks. Tiny ones. Just a few things per day.

“How do you eat an elephant?” One bite at a time.

This film is massive. But it’s made of small parts. Focus on those, and eventually, you get there.

More soon. Thanks for sticking with me.
